Frequently Asked Questions — Fiaglam Edmonton

Booking &Scheduling

How far in advance should I book bridal makeup in Edmonton?

Book 6 to 12 months before your wedding date. Edmonton wedding seasons fill quickly, and multi-day South Asian weddings require multiple date holds across Nikkah, Mehndi, Walima, and reception events. Early booking also gives enough lead time to schedule a bridal trial 4 to 8 weeks before the first event.

Submit an inquiry through the contact page or call 780-243-8786. We respond within 12 hours to confirm availability. Once availability is confirmed, a non-refundable deposit secures your date. The deposit percentage and payment methods are confirmed when your inquiry is accepted — this is discussed in the first response.

Yes. A non-refundable deposit is required to hold your date. The remaining balance is due before or on the day of the appointment. Deposit percentage and cancellation terms are confirmed at booking.

Yes. A bridal trial is booked 4 to 8 weeks before your first event as part of the standard bridal process. During the trial, the full look is applied using the products and technique planned for the day — every shade, brand, and application order is documented so the look replicates exactly on the wedding morning. Bring inspiration photos, your veil or headpiece, jewelry, and details about your outfit colours.

Pakistani bridal makeup takes 90 to 120 minutes per bride. Western bridal makeup takes 60 to 90 minutes. Each additional bridal party member requires approximately 40 to 45 minutes. For a party of 4, plan a minimum 4-hour window on the wedding morning.

Yes. We set up at your home, hotel, or venue across Edmonton, Sherwood Park, St. Albert, Leduc, Beaumont, Spruce Grove, Fort Saskatchewan, and surrounding Alberta areas. Travel fees are provided during your consultation based on your location — a flat fee applies within Edmonton, with a per-kilometre rate outside the city.

The deposit is non-refundable. If you need to reschedule, we will attempt to accommodate based on availability. Rescheduling is not guaranteed. Cancellation terms are confirmed in writing at the time of booking.

Yes. Hair styling is available alongside makeup for bridal and event bookings. This includes traditional bun, side bun, loose waves, braided styles, and half-up with padding for volume. Hair extensions application is included if extensions are supplied by the client. Availability and timing for hair styling are discussed when you submit your inquiry.

Bridal Makeup

What is the difference between Pakistani bridal makeup and Western bridal makeup?

Pakistani bridal makeup involves heavier eye structure — kajal, cut crease, smokey blends, defined double liner — undertone matching for Fitzpatrick III to VI skin, dupatta and jewelry setting (matha patti, tikka, jhoomar, nath), outfit colour coordination, dressing assistance for lehenga, gharara, sharara, and sari, and cultural styling such as hijabi draping. Application takes 90 to 120 minutes. Western bridal uses a lighter eye, softer contouring, airbrush, HD, or traditional technique depending on coverage preference, and takes 60 to 90 minutes.

Yes. Matha patti, tikka, jhoomar, nath, earrings, necklace set, dupatta, chunni, and chadar are all positioned and pinned as part of the Pakistani bridal booking. Sari pinning is available for brides wearing a sari. Dressing assistance is available for heavy lehenga, gharara, sharara, and sari.

Yes. Hijabi bridal styling includes full hijab draping, layered dupatta placement over the hijab, tikka and matha patti positioning compatible with full coverage, earring-to-hijab coordination, and secure pinning that holds through multi-hour ceremonies, outdoor photography, and evening receptions without shifting.

Yes. Multi-event packages cover 2 to 5 ceremonies under one booking. Each ceremony receives a distinct look — Mayoun uses a fresh, dewy base with minimal colour; Mehndi uses a bright palette with shimmer and playful eye; Nikkah uses bold eye structure and a strong lip on HD or matte base; Baraat and Walima use an evening-level second look different from the Nikkah. Confirm all event dates at first inquiry so every date is held before scheduling conflicts arise.

Yes. We work across warm, olive, golden, and deep undertones within Fitzpatrick III to VI. Base type — dewy, HD matte, or satin — is selected during the trial based on your skin’s undertone, oil production, and venue conditions. We also apply Britenol booster in HydraFacial sessions for clients dealing with post-inflammatory marks or hyperpigmentation common in South Asian skin tones.

We use airbrush or traditional technique depending on your skin and coverage goal, waterproof foundations, humidity-resistant base, crease-proof eye products, and transfer-proof lip. Waterproof setting spray and the baking technique are applied as the final step. Product selection holds through emotional rukhsati moments, long Nikkah ceremonies, outdoor photography, and late-night receptions. A touch-up kit — blotting sheets, setting powder, lip product, and applicators — is included with every bridal booking.

Yes. Bridesmaids, mothers of the bride and groom, flower girls, and maid of honour can all be booked in the same session. Each person receives a look coordinated with the wedding palette but adapted to her own features and skin tone. Group scheduling is planned during the consultation so every time slot is confirmed before the wedding morning.

Skincare & Treatment

What is a HydraFacial and how is it different from a regular facial?

HydraFacial is a non-invasive treatment that uses the Vortex-Fusion system (Edge Systems LLC) — a sealed spiral tip that creates gentle suction to remove congestion without manual squeezing, then infuses hyaluronic acid, peptides, and antioxidants at the dermal level in a single 45 to 60 minute session with zero downtime. A regular spa facial uses manual extraction and surface-applied serums. HydraFacial delivers active ingredients deeper than surface application, which is why results are visible within hours of the first session.

Start monthly HydraFacial sessions 3 to 6 months before your wedding. This builds cumulative hydration, clarity, and even tone across the preparation period. Schedule your last HydraFacial 3 to 7 days before the wedding — this keeps hydration and skin clarity at peak levels close to the event while giving the skin time to settle. After your last pre-wedding HydraFacial, apply mineral SPF and avoid active skincare for 24 to 48 hours. HydraFacial sessions also fit between microneedling recovery windows to maintain surface clarity while collagen remodelling continues.

HydraFacial addresses congestion, blackheads, enlarged pores, oily skin, dehydration, dullness, fine lines, uneven skin tone, rough texture, sun damage, and acne-prone skin. It is safe for all skin types and Fitzpatrick types including darker skin tones (I to VI). Booster selection is adjusted per concern — Britenol for dark spots and pigmentation, DermaBuilder for fine lines, CTGF for firmness and repair. LED light therapy can be added — red light for collagen stimulation, blue light for acne-causing bacteria.

No. Pregnancy is a standard contraindication due to the active exfoliating acids used in the treatment. Other contraindications include active rashes, open wounds, severe sunburn, and active cold sores in the treatment area. A consultation confirms whether the treatment is appropriate for your current health condition before booking.

Microneedling, also called collagen induction therapy, creates controlled micro-channels in the skin using fine sterile needles. The channels trigger fibroblast activation — the cellular process that produces new collagen and elastin inside the dermis. Each session takes approximately 60 minutes including 15 to 20 minutes of topical numbing cream applied before treatment begins. Contraindications include active acne in the treatment area, open wounds, pregnancy, blood clotting disorders, and active eczema or psoriasis on the area being treated. The treatment addresses acne scars, enlarged pores, fine lines, uneven texture, uneven skin tone, stretch marks, and dullness. Individual results vary — microneedling is not a guarantee of specific outcomes and results depend on skin type, concern severity, sessions completed, and aftercare adherence.

Start 4 to 6 months before your first wedding event. Complete 3 to 5 sessions spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart for general texture and pore improvement. Your last session should be at least 4 to 6 weeks before the wedding to allow full healing. After each session, apply mineral SPF daily, avoid retinoids for 5 to 7 days, and skip makeup for 24 hours. Collagen remodelling from earlier sessions continues improving skin for up to 6 months — meaning results are still building on the wedding day from treatments completed months earlier.

Yes, when performed with conservative needle depth, no heat device combination, and strict mineral SPF protocol. Fitzpatrick IV to VI skin carries a higher post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation risk with heat-based treatments — standard microneedling without radiofrequency is the safer option for these tones. Conservative settings and a structured aftercare plan reduce that risk significantly. We assess your Fitzpatrick type and skin history at the consultation before building your treatment plan.

HydraFacial cleanses, extracts, and hydrates the skin surface with zero downtime and visible results after one session. Microneedling creates controlled micro-injuries that stimulate collagen production inside the dermis with 24 to 72 hours of redness post-treatment. In a bridal prep plan, both are used together — microneedling for structural correction of scars, pores, and texture, HydraFacial for surface hydration and maintenance between microneedling recovery windows. For a full breakdown visit the HydraFacial vs microneedling page.

Microneedling and HydraFacial together produce a base that holds primer and foundation without slipping, requires less coverage under photography lighting, and reads more evenly on camera than untreated skin. As a Licensed Esthetician and Professional Makeup Artist, we assess how the skin responds to treatment and how that response affects primer adhesion, foundation coverage, and what the camera captures on the wedding day. Products and Preparation

What products do you use for bridal makeup?

We use professional-grade, long-wear products selected for 12+ hour performance, waterproof hold, and photography-optimized finish. A touch-up kit — blotting sheets, setting powder, lip product, and applicators — is included with every bridal booking. Product selection is adjusted per skin type — oil-based primers for dry skin, water-based for oily and combination, humidity-resistant base for summer outdoor weddings, oxidation-resistant formulas for warm winter indoor venues. Exact brand names are confirmed with the client at the trial. Confirm specific product preferences during your consultation.

Arrive with a clean, freshly moisturized face. Do not apply heavy skincare products, sunscreen, or oils on the morning of the appointment — a light moisturizer is fine. Bring inspiration photos, your veil or headpiece, and jewelry to a trial appointment. Avoid trying new skincare products or treatments in the 2 weeks before the appointment to prevent unexpected reactions on the day.

A HydraFacial is safe 3 to 7 days before your wedding. Microneedling, chemical peels, and aggressive exfoliation should be completed at least 4 to 6 weeks before the event. Treatments done too close to the wedding risk leaving the skin reactive, dry, or sensitive on the day.

Yes. Sensitive skin is assessed during the consultation and trial. Product selection accounts for sensitivity — fragrance-free formulas, skin-barrier-supporting primers, and non-comedogenic foundations are selected where needed. Products are tested at the trial to confirm compatibility before the wedding day.
